As the industry comes together to support National Heat Pump Week (12-16 October), the Future Homes Hub is encouraging housebuilders, suppliers and industry partners to take advantage of the growing body of guidance and shared learning available to help deliver low-carbon homes at scale.
National Heat Pump Week has been established to increase understanding and confidence in heat pumps, showcase real-world installations and support the UK's transition to low-carbon heating.
The campaign comes at a pivotal moment for the housing sector following the publication of the Future Homes Standard, which will require low-carbon heating in new homes and is expected to drive a significant increase in heat pump adoption across the sector. The Future Homes Hub's Future Homes Standard Ready campaign provides practical resources and guidance to help homebuilders prepare for the transition, drawing on lessons learned from organisations already delivering homes with heat pumps.
Future Homes Hub resources to support the heat pump transition
To help organisations prepare for the transition to low-carbon heating and the delivery of Future Homes Standard homes, the Future Homes Hub has developed a range of practical guidance, tools and lessons learned from early adopters:
- For homebuilders: Delivering homes with heat pumps - hints and tips for successful heat pump deployment.
- For procurement teams: Heating system procurement - advice for procuring heat pumps for new-build low density homes.
- For site managers: Hints and tips for site managers - an online resource and printable checklist designed to highlight common issues and best practice in heat pump installation.
- For architects: Integrating heat pumps - hints & tips for architects & architectural technologists
- For commissioning teams: Heat pump commissioning - hints and tips for planning successful commissioning of heat pumps in low density homes.
Daniel Neasham, Head of Sustainability and Performance at the Future Homes Hub, said: "Heat pumps are a proven technology, but successful delivery requires a whole-system approach. The lessons emerging from successful early adopters are clear: early technical collaboration, integrated design development, robust installation controls, accurate commissioning and proactive customer support are essential. National Heat Pump Week provides an excellent opportunity to share these experiences and support the wider sector as we move towards delivering Future Homes Standard homes at scale."
As part of National Heat Pump Week, the Future Homes Hub Strategic Advisor David Adams will join the ‘Building Homes of the Future – Future Homes Standard webinar’ on 14 October, sharing insights from the Future Homes Hub's work helping the industry prepare for low-carbon heating and the successful delivery of Future Homes Standard homes.
