Overview of Project and Specification
Cala have trialed these masonry constructed houses with the Wondrwall infra-red panel heating system which comes with smart controls. Immersion heaters are used for the hot water. There are no batteries.
The aim of the project is to investigate the use of infra-red panels with smart controls as a means all electric heating.

Key learnings
- These properties were large homes with good ceiling heights – this allowed us to move from conventional wall mounted heat panels to ceiling mounted – ensuing co-ordinated designs with M&E designers & joist suppliers was key, as well as thoughtful design with lighting positions.
- The orientation of plot and roof design of the home is important for PV panel positioning and number of panels that can be included.
- Providing the homeowner with a full demonstration of the automated home takes more detailed knowledge of the system from sales advisors compared to a more traditional heating and hot water system.
